Ask The Team
FAQs
- Is my child safe at school with all this construction work going on?
The school is completely segregated from site activities with hoardings, barriers and fencing so there won't be any instances where children are in the same vicinity as construction works. All site activities are constantly being controlled and monitored by ISGJackson staff on site; each activity has also been planned and assessed as to the safest way of conducting the work. Deliveries and the bulk of site traffic have been arranged so that they aren't arriving during the busy opening and closing period when children will be in the area.
- Will the build disrupt lessons at the junior and infant schools?
We have adapted the way we are managing operations on site to meet the demands and restrictions of working in a functioning school environment. Matt Bynoe, the team project manager, has a lot of experience with running projects like these. He will constantly ensure that any disruptive works are done outside of school hours or are controlled in a way which will minimise any negative impact. Hoardings and barriers have been erected around the site perimeters and compound zones, the main reason being to stop children gaining access onto site; however they also stop children staring out of classroom windows at site activities.
- What hours of the day will building activity be taking place?
Actual site hour's state that work starts at 08.00 and stops at 17.00, deliveries are restricted to between 09.30 and 14.30. Any operation that is known to be disruptive or is irregular will be judged as to whether it should be re-arranged or adapted.
- How much noise and disruption is there likely to be at the weekends?
Minimal. We try to avoid working weekends, however when the programme is tight it may be necessary to remain on time, usually the works consist of wrapping up an unfinished activity from the week and are finished early afternoon.
- Will I still be able to travel along Raglan, Wellington, Amberlry and Crawley Roads during the build?
Yes, we have two site entrances, one thin corridor between no.108 and 110 Amberley Rd, and the other off Wellington Rd. Both of these access and egress points have traffic management plans and a banksman to reduce the amount of time which traffic will be obstructed by site activities.
(The banksman is a skilled person whose role is to direct traffic operations of vehicles onto and around site - necessary due to the nature of working in a built up environment where space is limited and access is tight)
- When will the new school extensions be open?
The schools will be ready by September 2010.
- With such a focus on green energy these days, what sustainable features are incorporated into the new extensions?
The build processes are geared in a lean way with the aim of reducing wastage; we make conscious efforts to save water and power, down to minor things like switching off lights when they aren't being used. Built into the design of the new extensions, solar panels, Passivents and green roofs have been incorporated to not only be sustainable and environmentally friendly but also save the school money in the future.
- What constitutes a considerate constructor?
A considerate constructor works to the 'site code of considerate practice' which requires taking extra care and making a conscious effort to minimise the negative effects to the environment and its neighbours through being responsible, respectful, accountable and safe. Once registered to the scheme each site is assessed and given a score which determines how considerate it is.
